An investigation into the uses of motion analysis software within the public space of the new concert hall in Perth.
'In/Flux' consisted of a suite of interelated Interactive pieces for the Threshold New Media project, together celebrating the arrival of animating human presence and movement, over the 'threshold' of the newly opened Perth Concert Hall.
Using the open source gesture analysis software, EyesWeb,a series of interactive pieces were produced, allowing viewers(both audience members and performers) to interact with projected live video footage.
The software allows image processing of video in real time together with detection of movement by comparison of adjacent video frames. Interactivity can be built in, without sensors, by generating image effects in response to user movement.
Historical contexts for the project include the work of the nineteenth century scientist and photographer, Etienne-Jules Marey (a contemporary of Muybridge), who developed ways of working with photography and mechanical devices to record and analyse movement, including "chronophotography" - the delineation of time by light.

'In/Flux' interactions were produced and shown;for the launch of the Threshold New Media project in September '05. Further pieces were developed via workshops in November '05 and July '06, including a dance collaboration, and work for the 22 screen video wave.
